The intervention softens a previously high-contrast interior through layered materiality and tonal nuance. Custom joinery, rich textiles, and tailored furnishings introduce warmth and intimacy, creating a more relaxed, liveable expression of the original architecture.
Originally designed in the early 2000s by Richard Priest and Susan Hillery, this compact family home was defined by confident modern lines and high-contrast aesthetic. As the clients entered a new chapter, they were ready to reimagine the interior to reflect their evolving lifestyle. The brief was to soften the home’s edges and introduce warmth and ease. The goal was to complement the architecture, layering texture, materiality, and subtle tonal shifts to create a homely, elegant atmosphere. Soft furnishings, carefully chosen furniture, and tailored window treatments temper contrasts, while custom built-in pieces integrate seamlessly into the architecture, balancing practicality with refinement. Rich textiles, tactile finishes, and nuanced colour variations create moments of intimacy. The result is a sophisticated yet welcoming interior, a mature expression of the clients’ design appreciation, grounded in comfort and perfectly suited to this new stage of life.
Layered textures, nuanced materiality, and subtle tonal shifts gently temper the home’s strong contrasts, creating a more inviting and cohesive environment.
